It was a team made up of Deeside players who took home the virtual silverware from the ValentineSpiel this year, although every player in every team walked away from Dumfries Ice Bowl today with a prize of some sort.

After five matches, the round-robin stage of the ValentineSpiel 2013 was complete, and the table was as follows:

After 5 matches
Skip Points Ends Shots Shot +/-
Richard Smith 10 19 39 24
Laura Beever 7 17 35 14
Jim Hogg 6 17 39 15
Dawn Watson 4 10 20 -15
Andrew Robbins 3 15 28 -12
Jim McCormack 0 12 19 -26

The sixth matches were arranged as High Road, Mid Road and Low Road finals, to decide 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 positions respectively.

Some matches saw a change in fortunes or result compared to their previous meetings in the Round Robin – others did not.

High Road Final
End 1 2 3 4 5 6 Final
Laura Beever 1 2 1 0 0 1 5
Richard Smith 0 0 0 3 1 0 4
Mid Road Final
End 1 2 3 4 5 6 Final
Jim Hogg 3 0 4 1 1 9
Dawn Watson 0 3 0 0 0 3
Low Road Final
End 1 2 3 4 5 6 Final
Andrew Robbins 1 0 3 0 2 0 6
Jim McCormack 0 2 0 2 0 1 5

After the finals, First Province of Wales President Andrew Robbins thanked the organisers, the icemaking staff and handed every player a prize.

We are hoping to secure dates for the ValentineSpiel 2014 soon, so watch this space and it will hopefully be back, bigger and better, next February.
