Competitions

Here you can find results and tables from Deeside competitions, under their appropriate competition name (to left).

There are also details of competitions taking place elsewhere, most of which are not organised by the WCA or FPOW.

The Four Nations
The Four Nations tournament is a chance for the Four Nations of the British Isles - Wales, Scotland, Ireland and England - to see how they fare against each other.  Last year's competition was hosted by the English Curling Association at Fenton's Rink in Kent, and saw Wales take a fair share of the spoils.

This year's competition (21st-22nd January) is hosted by the Welsh Curling Association. As we do not have access to the Deside Ice Rink for the full weekend needed for the tournament, matches will be played at Greenacres Curling Rink in Scotland.

Valentine Spiel
New for 2011-12 season: The special Bonspiel in February was won by the team skippered by James Pougher.

This event took place at Dumfries Ice Bowl on Sat. 18th & Sun 19th February 2012.  All players had a good time, and it seems likely the competition will feature in next season's schedule too.

League Cup
The League Cup is a Schenkel-style competition.  This means after each match, teams are drawn against others who have performed similarly to themselves.  In theory this should make for more even matches throughout.  After 5 out of 6 rounds due to take place, Deeside Curling Club seem to have a stronghold on the top spot. Deeside Mix & Match and Seakabd Shooters both made big moves up the rankings, and join Deeside Curling Club and Mid Wales Vikings in the High and Low Road finals respectively. The table now stands as follows:

Points Competition
Our first event this season was the Points Competition, held on Monday 5th September.  Scores were awarded as 2 (a "perfect" shot) or 1 (for a right result) in the disciplines of striking, inwicking, drawing, guarding, chap & lie, wick & curl in, raising, chipping the winner, drawing through a port and outwicking.  With 2 attempts at each shot, the maximum possibe score was 40.

Results
Many congratulations to James Pougher, who took the competition with a clear 6-point lead over his nearest rivals.  There was some confusion at the end of the competition with a tie for both 3rd and 5th places, which had to be decided with the use of additional throw(s).
