No Curling at Deeside, Mon 26th Oct

Next week is the Half Term break for Flintshire. Deeside Ice Rink will be over-run with schoolchildren going ice skating, and therefore not available for curling on 26th October.

Meanwhile, the Welsh Bonspiel runs from Friday 30th October to Sunday 1st November, so there will be updates from Greenacres over the long weekend to help stave off the curling-withdrawal symptoms.

All being well, we should resume curling at Deeside on Monday 2nd November.

2014-15 FPOW season ends

The Curling season at Deeside Ice Rink is now over for this year. All club members should have received an email about this, if not, please log into the online clubroom to view it.

The next opportunity to curl in North Wales is expected to be in September 2015. If you are interested in trying this sport, please see our Try Curling page for more information, and contact us if you want to know more.

End-of-season events such as our presentation evening and our Annual General Meeting will take place in early May.

Christmas & New Year at Deeside

Happy Christmas to all our players and fans!

We now have no curling until Monday 5th January. The first week of play in 2015 will be a one-off set of Friendly matches, as we look to assess some of the teams. Based on these games and people’s wishes, some changes may take place for teams for the new league, which begins the following week.

Please see the individual event pages for 6pm matches and 8pm matches: teams will be the same as the pre-Christmas 6pm League and 8pm League.

You can find the draft plan for matches for 12th January onwards on the FPOW Match Schedule page.

One final note:

WCA RoundelIf you wish to play in the Welsh National Championships 2015, or be considered for a place on the National Performance Programme (and potential selection for a Wales squad or team), make sure you fill in the relevant form and return it to Adrian Meikle by 31st December 2014.

I hope you have a very enjoyable and peaceful Christmas, and look forward to seeing you again in the New Year!

No Curling this week

Figure of person ice-skating in 'Layback' position A quick reminder to all players, and something to note if you were planning to come and Try curling – this Monday (8th October) there is no curling at Deeside. This is due to the Welsh National Ice Skating Competition taking place. We’ll be back on Monday 15th.

If the thought of being without curling for a week appals you, why not catch the action from the Swiss Cup in Basel? There’s live video on Laola1 – and you can get more details from the official Curling Champions Tour website.
