Four Nations 2017 preview

The Four Nations begins on Saturday at Greenacres curling club in Renfrewshire.  The Four Nations meeting is a chance for Wales to compete against Scotland, England and Ireland for a series of trophies.  There is usually a mixture of men’s, ladies’ and mixed teams.

This time, it’s Scotland’s turn to host the tournament, and in a change of venue, we will once again return to Greenacres (which as well as hosting the Four Nations in 2016, also hosts the annual Welsh Bonspiel).

There are three matches on each day, with the first taking place at 9am. For Wales, the days are split neatly, with Saturday being a day for Mixed matches, while Sunday sees matches between men’s teams and women’s teams.

New 2015-16 Season: information

We are just a few a days away from the start of Curling at Deeside for the 2015-16 season! We start FPOW competitions on Monday 14th September, and TryCurling will also be available for anyone who wants to give the sport a go for the first time.

Playing structure

Initially, we will run 2 separate Monday leagues for play at 6pm and 8pm. In each session, there is an uneven number of teams, and so every week at least one team will not compete (a “bye”). Please login to the clubroom to check the team lists and ensure you know which team you are in. The schedule of play will be available soon – make sure you know when your team will be playing. Curling from September

We are just 1 month away from the start of the new season! Please remember, if you want to play in either our 6pm or 8pm league, we need your form back this Sunday (9th August) at the latest. If you can’t find an email with your form attached, please contact Dawn & Adrian straightaway.

The actual structure of the league will be finalised over the next fortnight or so, once the deadline for entries has passed. Please do not ignore this, as if we have not heard from you we will have to assume you do not want to play next season, and we do not expect there to be space for people who have not registered to just turn up on Monday 8th September.

The waiting game…

It’s now July, and the summer off-season is upon us.

We won’t be curling at Deeside again until September, which at only 8 weeks away is much closer than in most years. Even so, it seems the break is going to be difficult to manage for some of our new players. Here’s an extract from an email we recently received.

Hi,
Tomorrow night is the last night of the extended Summer League and already feeling sad!!
We came along to a ” Try Curling” session in March and have been hooked ever since, and look forward to Monday evenings with great excitement.  We have met and made new friends and acquaintances in this short period of time and look forward to continuing in this tactical, stimulating and often frustrating sport!

The final arrangements for the new season, including the format and number of teams, is still being worked out – but we expect to start League curling on Monday 8th September.

If you are an existing FPOW member, or started in the last 12 months and have been playing in the Summer League, you should soon hear from us to get your preferences for next season. If you want to play in the 2014-15 season, we need you to let us know.
