New 2014-15 Season: information

Welcome back to Curling at Deeside for the 2014-15 season! We start FPOW  competitions on Monday 8th September, with lots of new members.

Playing structure

Over the next 3-4 months, we will run 2 separate Monday leagues for play at 6pm and 8pm. In each session, there is an uneven number of teams, and so every week one team will not compete (a “bye”). Please check the attached documents to ensure you know when your team will be playing. Continue reading

Curling from September

We are just 1 month away from the start of the new season! Please remember, if you want to play in either our 6pm or 8pm league, we need your form back this Sunday (9th August) at the latest. If you can’t find an email with your form attached, please contact Dawn & Adrian straightaway.

The actual structure of the league will be finalised over the next fortnight or so, once the deadline for entries has passed. Please do not ignore this, as if we have not heard from you we will have to assume you do not want to play next season, and we do not expect there to be space for people who have not registered to just turn up on Monday 8th September.

The waiting game…

It’s now July, and the summer off-season is upon us.

We won’t be curling at Deeside again until September, which at only 8 weeks away is much closer than in most years. Even so, it seems the break is going to be difficult to manage for some of our new players. Here’s an extract from an email we recently received.

Hi,
Tomorrow night is the last night of the extended Summer League and already feeling sad!!
We came along to a ” Try Curling” session in March and have been hooked ever since, and look forward to Monday evenings with great excitement.  We have met and made new friends and acquaintances in this short period of time and look forward to continuing in this tactical, stimulating and often frustrating sport!

The final arrangements for the new season, including the format and number of teams, is still being worked out – but we expect to start League curling on Monday 8th September.

If you are an existing FPOW member, or started in the last 12 months and have been playing in the Summer League, you should soon hear from us to get your preferences for next season. If you want to play in the 2014-15 season, we need you to let us know.

Summer League: enter and play until late June

A curling 'hack', which looks rather like a sprint race's starting blockWe have secured ice to run a Summer League this season.

In this competition we will have a mix of new players and established curlers.  Beginners should be placed in a team along with an experienced player either as a fellow player or a mentor.

If you have never attempted Curling before, please do not sign up here. Instead, check out our TryCurling information and request a session.

Match Times

Games will start at 6pm and 8pm, and last up to 2h (8 ends).  If possible, please arrive 10 minutes beforehand, to get equipment, complete the coin toss and be ready as soon as the ice is empty.  Most sessions will take place on a Monday – but there are exceptions.
