Welsh Championships Day 2
The majority of matches in the Welsh Championships 2015 take place today (Saturday). With one round-robin match left for each team on Sunday, performance today matters. [restabs alignment="osc-tabs-left" responsive="false"] [restab title="Summary" active="active"]After day one, three teams had the early advantage, but the second draw saw two of those three lose and produce a 4-way tie for second place. The day started well for James Pougher's team who took a 9-1 victory over Andrew Robbins. Adrian Meikle's side had less fortune in their second game, as Hugh Meikle came through a tight match with a 7-5 win. The third match of that session saw Jamie Fletcher's team chalk up their first win of the competition, as they beat Laura Beever's team 12-9 in another very tight match.   Draw 3 saw James Pougher's team maintain their winning record, as they beat beat the ladies 10-1. Two teams, led by Adrian Meikle and Jamie Fletcher/Andrew Tanner, were tied for second place, as Adrian beat Andrew Robbins' team 8-4, while Hugh Meikle was the victim of a 9-4 win for the Fletcher/Tanner team.[/restab] [restab title="Draw 2"] On Sheet C, James Pougher's team started well by improving their draw-shot score and have hammer advantage in the first end, though they only took a single shot in the first end. Despite having lost the hammer, they quickly took control of the match, stealing 2s and a 3 to lead8-0 at the half-way stage. Robbins' team managed to restrict Pougher to just 1 in the 5th, and took a single shot in the 6th end, but by then the score was conclusive and they shook after 6 ends to give Pougher victory 9-1. On Sheet D, it was a family affair as father Hugh Meikle took on son Adrian Meikle, and it was a closely-fought match the whole way. Despite Hugh taking the lead in end 2 and never going behind after that, the match was quite close the whole way. The teams shook after 7 ends with the score 7-5 in favour of Hugh. Sheet E saw another close match between the ladies' team of Laura Beever and the Fletcher/Tanner team. The men took the early advantage by stealing in the first end, but the women had the perfect response by taking 4 in the second end. The men pulled ahead by 2 shots in the 4th end, but it was level at 6-6 after the 5th end. Eventually it was the men who took the win after a mistake with the final draw for the ladies gave up 2.

If this is inconclusive, the average score in Draw Shot Challenge (discounting the largest) will break a 3-way tie.[/restab] [restab title="Draw 3"] On Sheet B, Adrian Meikle got the best result from the Draw Shot Challenge and took full advantage of the hammer in the first end, taking 3 shots straightaway. Robbins' team took 2 in the second end, but after that never looked likely to catch Meikle, who went on to take the match 8-4. On Sheet C, Hugh Meikle was up against Jamie Fletcher and Andrew Tanner's team. For the younger team it was a more convincing result than in their match earlier in the day. Fletcher's team managed to steal in the first end, and despite a couple of twos Hugh's team were always struggling to catch up, and after a few crucial missed takeouts they shook after 7 ends with Fletcher/Tanner 9-4 ahead. Sheet D was host to a comprehensive victory for James Pougher's team, and the match was over after just 6 ends. Beever's ladies had the hammer in the first end, but it was not until end 5 when they finally got on the scoreboard. The sixth end saw the men take a 4, and with it a win 10-1.
